Job Description Job Description Position Title: Water Aerobics Instructor Department: Fitness/Aquatics Reports To: Fitness Director, Assistant Fitness Director Supervises/Direct Reports: NA Summary Under direct supervision of the Fitness Director, the Water Aerobics Instructor provides water aerobics instruction, monitors and educates Members on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Instructs scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time. * Provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down. * Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles. * Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class. * Assists Members, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants. * Keeps management informed of pool activities, facility needs, and significant problems. * Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to. * Performs related duties as required. Essential Qualifications: * Certified Instructor (AEA, ACE, AFAA), water specialty/certification preferred. * Experience in Group Exercise, Water Aerobics instruction and/or Swim Coaching. Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. * Knowledge of water aerobics teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm. * Choreography skills are a plus. * Ability to be professional and motivate class participants. * Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members. * Outgoing, friendly, personable, social personality who is able to develop relationships with Members and Staff.
